Customer Charges and Fees
City Carting appreciates the loyalty of our customers. Our team strives to provide value, safely and consistently every day through superior product and service offerings. Fuel, environmental and regulatory costs are uncontrollable expenses incurred as part of servicing our customers’ waste and recycling needs. The charges and fees included on your invoice help us to recover our direct and indirect costs of operation and to achieve an acceptable profit margin. The information below will assist in understanding the charges and fees you may see on your invoice.
Fuel Charge
City Carting invoices its customers a fuel charge designed to offset the uncontrollable cost of fuel incurred in operating our business. The fuel charge is a recurring monthly charge calculated as a percent of applicable service charges. The percentage is updated at the beginning of each month from the Fuel Charge table based on the previous month’s high point price per gallon for diesel as published by the Energy Information Administration of the U.S. Department of Energy (“EIA/DOE”) in its Weekly Retail On-Highway Diesel Prices Index for New England (PADD 1A). https://www.eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/
The fuel charge is not attached to the cost of a specific customer but collectively recovers City Carting’s direct and indirect costs for fuel including an operating margin. The charge is not a tax or fee imposed by a municipality, government or regulatory agency. The charge, table, and calculation may be changed at the discretion of City Carting.
Environmental Charge
The Environmental Charge is a fixed percentage of all invoice charges except taxes, including the Fuel Charge. It is not a tax, surcharge or fee mandated by or remitted to any governmental or regulatory agency. The Environmental Charge is intended to recover direct and indirect costs for operating companies to operate in a safe and environmentally responsible manner. Such enterprise-wide environmental costs include, without limitation, environmentally responsible operations of WtE and landfill facilities or other disposal facilities, engineering, the disposal of tires, batteries, oils and fluids and the monitoring and management of emissions. The amount of the fee is not specifically tied to costs to service a specific customer account and is subject to change at any time at the company’s discretion.
